L.I.E. (Laboratoire d'Improvisation Expérimentale) is a multidisciplinary collective that thrives on non-hierarchical, horizontal collaboration. The group’s core practice centers on live composition through improvisation using a new language, the gestural code, to shape performances in real-time. Music, movement, light, and scenography are seamlessly integrated into a unified expression leading to a theatrical performance, dissolving boundaries between disciplines. Each member of LIE contributes equally and is free at all times to give any instructions to any participants using this conductive signs language. The collective's fluid structure allows the performers to switch from musician to dancer to conductor to observer and to step forward or back without disrupting the creative flow. This egalitarian approach fosters collective decision-making and reflects the shared vision of the group, resulting in ritualistic, dynamic, unpredictable performances. In addition to performances, the collective organizes open workshops and laboratory sessions to promote improvisation as a creative practice. Their mission is to demonstrate that improvisation brings people together, breaking down barriers and fostering a shared experience. Whether evoking humor, drama, or surprise, L.I.E. invites audiences to join them in an unpredictable journey where anything can happen.
A lier is a person or object that rests in a horizontal position.
